Cliniko has private health insurance functionality, but its data isn’t available through their API. This means Peptalkr can’t automatically identify private health patients. Here’s how to work around this by using appointment types.

If your clinic offers private health services, it’s handy to be able to identify these patients correctly for communication or marketing purposes.

While Cliniko has private health insurance data, this isn’t accessible via their API, so Peptalkr can’t determine if a patient is using private health.

The solution? Use appointment types specifically for private health patients. This simple workaround ensures you can manage these appointments effectively within Peptalkr.

How to set up appointment types for private health

Follow these steps to set up appointment types in Cliniko for private health patients:

1. Create a private health appointment category

1. Log in to Cliniko.

2. Navigate to Settings > Appointment Types.

3. Create a new appointment type for Private Health - e.g. Private Health Dental Clean & Checkup (create as many as you need).

2. Add appointment types to the Private Health category

You can optionally add an appointment category to the new appointment types called Private Health or whatever you choose.

This adds an extra layer of organisation, allowing your online bookings to group these appointments together, and giving Peptalkr more control over the targeting of PH patients.

Why use appointment types for private health?

Using specific appointment types for private health patients offers several benefits:

  • Accurate targeting: Peptalkr can identify and trigger emails or SMS for private health patients based on these appointment types.

  • Better organisation: Cliniko’s appointment categories keep private health services distinct, making them easier to manage.

  • Customisation: Tailor communications for private health patients with triggers linked to their appointment types.

  • Expiry notices: Send campaigns to PH patients when private health extras are coming up for expiry to promote bokings before they reset, or after they reset.

Tips for managing private health appointment types

1. Keep appointment types clear

Use names that make it easy to identify private health services, like “Private health Physio Consult”

2. Inform your team

Make sure your team knows to use these appointment types for all private health bookings.

3. Monitor appointments regularly

Check your appointment reports in Cliniko to ensure private health bookings are using the correct types.

FAQs

Why doesn’t Peptalkr automatically identify private health patients?

Cliniko’s API doesn’t provide access to private health insurance data, so Peptalkr relies on appointment types for identification.

Can I use Cliniko’s payment methods for this?

No, payment methods in Cliniko aren’t available through the API, so they can’t be used in Peptalkr triggers.

What if I forget to assign an appointment type?

If an appointment isn’t assigned to a private health type, Peptalkr won’t recognise it as private health, and associated triggers won’t activate.
