An SMS sender ID is a short, representation of your business that appears in place of a mobile number when an SMS is sent. Choose your own ID to tailor your SMS to your brand.

Here's what an SMS sender ID looks like:

Peptalkr SMS are non-reply messages. Their purpose is to inform, notify or encourage action such as booking an appointment, filling in a form or clicking a link. We want to reduce your workload, not increase it by opening new channels for direct communication.

When to use Peptalkr SMS

Use Peptalkr SMS where you want to achieve a goal, not have a conversation.

You should continue using your Cliniko SMS reminders if you want to receive replies, and use Peptalkr SMS for the other things such as:

  1. Prompting clients to book appointments

  2. Asking clients to provide feedback via a Peptalkr form

  3. Sending your new client Peptalkr intake form

  4. Providing a link to your website

  5. Providing a link to a sign up form for a custom list

Choosing your own sender ID

Your SMS will be sent from Peptalkr if you don't set a custom ID. You can set one on the Settings page of your account, however, Australian-based users are required to complete an additional step.

βœ… 11 character sender ID requirements

  1. Enter between 3 - 11 characters that represents the brand identity of the Sender. You can include upper- and lower-case letters, the numbers 0 - 9, and spaces.

  2. Include at least one letter.

  3. Do not use ASCII special characters (e.g. #, @).

🦘 Sending SMS in Australia

If you are sending SMS within Australia, you are required to complete an application form to approve your custom sender ID - as is required by Australian law. Don't worry, It's easy! We handle it for you.

  1. Complete the application form

  2. Wait 2-3 days for your application to be approved

  3. Start sending

Apply here (only for Australia)

🚨 Please ensure the Sender ID on your application matches what you have set on the Settings page - and yes, it is CASE sensitive.

Why do I have to apply?

On April 25th 2023 the Australian Communications and Authority (ACMA) made critical changes to how non-reply SMS are sent in Australia due to an increase in scam and spam SMS. ACMA requires that all Custom Sender IDs are registered with the authority. This ensures your business name cannot be used to send SMS to Australian-recipients by scammers - so it's a good thing!

🌏 Sending SMS outside Australia

If you are not based in Australia, or you only send SMS to patients with non-Australian mobile numbers - you can head to the Settings page and search for the Custom SMS Sender Name field. Changes made here will apply to users based in:

  • United Kingdom

  • Ireland

  • All of Europe (except Belgium, Hungary, Czech Republic)

  • Japan

Enter your chosen 11-character sender ID in the appropriate field. The changes will apply immediately.

🚫 Countries that do accept custom sender IDs

Not all countries accept Custom Sender IDs. In such cases where they are not accepted by the recipient country, a mobile number will be used to deliver the SMS.

At time of writing (November 2024) the following countries compatible with Peptalkr users do not accept Alphanumeric Sender IDs:

  • New Zealand

  • Canada

  • Malaysia

  • South Korea

  • South Africa

  • Belgium
