Peptalkr SMS are non-reply notifications. They behave like a normal SMS, except that instead of a 'mobile number' doing the sending, your business name appears at the top of the SMS, and replies are disabled. Ever received an SMS from your bank where the bank name is in place of a random mobile number? That's a non-reply SMS.
To register your own, custom 11 character sender ID, you need to follow these steps. If you do not follow these steps, your SMS will be sent from 'Peptalkr'.
Sending SMS in Australia
On April 25th 2023 the Australian Communications and Authority (ACMA) made critical changes to how non-reply SMS are sent.
Due to an increase in scam SMS in Australia - ACMA requires that all Alphanumeric Sender IDs are registered with the authority. This ensures your business name cannot be used to send SMS to Australian-recipients by scammers and verifies you as a legitimate business.
We handle this process for you.
Step One: Fill in the application form
Have the following information ready:
The 11 character alphanumeric sender ID you'd like to use (must closely represent your business/company name)*
Your legal company or Business name.
Your mailing address.
Your company phone number.
The legal name of the company director/owner.
Director/owner's company email address.
Whether you are the subsidiary of a parent company - If so, your parent companies address.
An official business registration document (ASIC etc.)
✅ 11 character sender ID requirements
1. Enter between 3 - 11 characters that represents the brand identity of the Sender. You can include upper- and lower-case letters, the numbers 0 - 9, and spaces.
2. Include at least one letter.
3. Do not use ASCII special characters (e.g. #, @).
Step Two: Sign the agreement
Generally within 1-2 business days after submitting your application, you'll receive an email from us requesting your signature on a document.
This document provides us with the necessary permission to handle the sender ID application n your behalf.
You will need to:
Open the agreement
Fill in any fields left for you
Sign the agreement
Press submit
Step Three: Wait between 2-5 working days
ACMA and our SMS Partner Twilio will notify us when your sender ID is approved. We'll then email you, and activate your sender ID - meaning any SMS sent from this point forward will be from your approved sender ID.
👉 Any changes you make to the Sender ID field on the Settings page will not apply to Australian recipients. You will need to contact us if you want to change your approved sender ID.
Sending SMS outside Australia
If you are not based in Australia, or you send SMS to patients with non-Australian mobile numbers - you can head to the 'Settings' page and enter your chosen 11-character sender ID in the appropriate field. The changes will apply immediately.
Please note that not all countries accept Alphanumeric Sender IDs. In such cases where they are not accepted by the recipient country, a mobile number will be used to deliver the SMS.
