In this article, we will show you how to segment your patients into which business they have visited. This is great if you have multiple businesses or locations and only patients who attend one or the other need this campaign or journey.

Custom fields you can use for this kind of segment:

  • Businesses visited - Segment on whether this patient has ever visited a particular business in your Cliniko account.

  • Last business visited - Segment on whether this patient's last appointment was at a particular business.

  • Next appointment location - Segment on whether this patient's next appointment will be at a particular business.

In this example, we will use Businesses Visited but you can be more specific with your needs by applying the other options to create the segment you need.

๐Ÿฅ’ How to create segments based on business visited ๐Ÿฅ’

Step 1: Go to 'Send Email'

Step 2: Click 'Lists & Subscribers' along the top of the page

Step 3: Click on 'Patients'.

๐Ÿ‘‰ You may be tempted to press 'Create a list' - however, the list named 'Patients' is in sync with Cliniko, so you will be creating your segments inside that list. You'd only create a new list if you want a totally separate database - such as 'leads' or 'Competition entries'.

Step 4: Select 'Segments'. You will notice we already have some segments set up for you, have a look through those to see how you can utilise those in the future.

โ€‹Step 5: Click 'Create a new segment'.

  • Here you will see a drop-down menu, and you can select 'Businesses visited'.

  • Another drop-down menu will appear, and you can select 'contains' and type in the business name that applies.

๐Ÿ’ก โ€‹Businesses Visited uses the 'Display name' from your business settings in Cliniko. If you have not set a display name, it will use the Business Name. If multiple businesses share the same business name, be sure to set unique display names so you can target the businesses individually.

  • Name your segment. Be clear with the segment name, such as 'North Sydney Osteopathy patients' then press 'Save and preview'.

You will then see a list of all of your patients that have now been added to that segment. This is now saved and can be used in Campaigns or Journeys.

โ€‹Segments are not applicable to Transactional email. They are just for marketing segmentation. Transactional email allow you to configure with even more specificity who to target, as part of the trigger creation process
