This is step one of setting up a Transactional email. Make sure you've read our introduction to Transactional email first.
Setting up a transactional email is a two-part process:
Step One - Creating an email template (these instructions)
Step Two - Connecting a trigger
If you've already done the Create an email part and just want help with the Build your email part click here to skip head.
πͺCreating a transactional email template
Transactional emails are a two part process.
Part A: Create an email
Head to the Send Email tab and click Transactional.
Then click
Fill in the following:
Name this email - a logical name so you can easily identify the template later.
Write a subject line - Something short but effective (insert personalisation if you like!)
Who is it from? - The name of your business (or insert the treating practitioner's name) and your sender email address.
Use a different reply to email - If you want replies to send somewhere other than the sending email, fill this in,
Add recipients to a list - Select Do Not Add to a List from the dropdown
Content - click
π From here - you'll enter the email builder where you can choose a template and design your email.
π€ Build your email button greyed out?
Here's why:
Not selecting a domain from the 'Show My Domains' dropdown can prevent progress. Ensure your domain is verified and selected.
Not selecting 'Do Not Add to a List' from the 'Add recipient to a list?' dropdown.

Part B: Select a template
Now for the fun part!
To use one of Peptalkr's professionally designed Transactional email templates click on My Templates. The pre-built templates are all customisable, and you can see the name of the template below each to guide you.
Now you can go ahead and:
Adjust the text to suit your needs.
Add in your logo, colours or other styling.
Add or remove sections as you need.
Insert personalisation per your needs.
All of our pre-built templates are as close to ready to go as possible! You needn't do much, but you can still customise them exactly as you like if desired. Here's a guide on using the drag and drop builder.
You can also edit the base templates so they have your changes saved globally for future use. Watch the video here to learn more.
Once you're done, press the button to see a preview of your email on a computer and a mobile phone.
Go ahead and click if you're happy to be taken back to the settings screen.
Now you can click Finish to publish your Transactional email template. Don't worry - it won't start sending until you connect a trigger.
Sending yourself a test
You can press Send a test (pictured above) to email yourself or anyone else in your team a copy of the template. Just remember that any personalisation variables you've entered will be blank in the test.
If you want to test your variables, go to the connect a trigger step and follow the instructions on testing from there to see data inserted into your variables.
Now you'll see a message - which means it's time to connect your trigger:
π View the code?! You can ignore this text - this is just for advanced use. No code is necessary, you just need to head to the Triggers tab now to create your trigger!
Step Two - Connecting a Trigger
Woohoo! Now you can connect a trigger to start sending your email - which only takes 2 minutes!
